Mandarin is hot?
September 18, 2007
Sure I’ve been blogging since early 2005. But, I felt the need to create a “professional” blog for my stagnant teaching career.
Before I moved to L.A. from San Francisco, everyone was telling me that I’d have found a job within now time b/c of my background. Yep, I’m a native Chinese speaker from Taiwan, have a 10-year teaching experience in ESL and Mandarin. Yet, maybe I’m targeting on the wrong area, nothing exciting happened so far.
Of course we know the teaching jobs are not a “financially” rewarding occupation here in the U.S. (Oh, yes, they do RESPECT teachers much much more in Asia) . And I am so tired of seeing all those ads about $10~12 per hour as a preshool teacher, $12~16 per hour paid for being a tutor for Students K~12. Gosh… that’s harsh. Even though I did find some tutoring job sites that promise $45 or $50 an hour, but, you really can’t do those kinda jobs as a stable primary income. Gee… Maybe I chose the wrong profession in the U.S.
Who knows. This is just the Day 15 I step into this job market after moving here. Let’s keep the hope high.
Time to making lunch for myself and my hubby.
